Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Sullivan County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, the message may be retained long enough to respond and manage the exchange. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server and analytics records may collect technical details when a page loads:
- Device IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent
- Referring site, when available
- Date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files used to understand traffic, popular pages, and site performance. Analytics providers may combine visits into summary reports. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although parts of the site may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected data is used only for ordinary site operations and service delivery:
- Operate, maintain, and speed up the site
- Route a submitted query to the selected partner
- Measure which pages visitors use
- Detect errors, misuse, and technical faults
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
This site does not create, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal histories. It publishes reference information about records held by Sullivan County courts, the Sheriff, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, DOCCS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports. DCJS fingerprint histories remain restricted under New York law and are not available through a public FOIL request.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the selected partner's privacy policy. Each partner controls its own processing, retention, disclosure, pricing, and results. Read those terms before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Sullivan County agencies, New York courts, DCJS, DOCCS, statutes, registry resources, or private search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy applies. Review it before sending personal information.
Advertising providers may also use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs under the provider's practices.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- A search partner that receives a query
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving site ads
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and operational safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, and this policy does not promise that a breach, loss, or unauthorized access can never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. Information identified as a minor's personal submission will be removed when a valid request establishes the issue.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. A person may ask to see personal data held directly by us, correct an error, request deletion, or object to certain processing. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs requests to public agencies and does not convert this private site into a government records custodian. Executive Law ยง837 governs DCJS criminal-history functions and dissemination, not our visitor analytics.
- Request access to personal information held directly by us
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Request deletion where the law permits it
- Opt out of processing when an applicable right provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A replacement takes effect when posted here and will carry a new effective date.
